Human Rights: A personal opinion on the matter.

When we talking about Human Rights we must understand that we mean a sensitive issue for many people around the world, because there are still a lot of countries where respect for them is extremely precarious.
That isn’t the case of Canada, where there is a strong Culture and Tradition of respect and promotion of Human Rights (HR) which are contained in The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It’s difficult to select one of those HR as the most important, if any, because all are closely related to the full and integral development of the person.

However, in my opinion if I were to make a list of them ordered by relevance, I would place first in the list the number seven (Legal Rights) “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamentals justice…”. I believe that humans normally serve our needs starting from the most basic (physiological), after personal needs (safety, self-esteem) and then serve social needs. A person who has not secured fundamental aspects such as their own life, liberty and security, it can hardly develop fully as a citizen in a democratic society.

Toronto ice storm 2013: Photos show city looking like crime scene with taped-off downed branches.

Last December 21, a strong ice storm fell on the city of Toronto. As a result there were numerous property damage and hundreds of thousands of people were without electric service. In some parts of the city blackouts lasted several days. Many sidewalks and large buildings surrounding places were closed due to the risk of falling chunks of ice. In the following link, you can read the journalistic note prepared by the Canadian Press Agency about this event.
